Hi! We’re so glad you’re here! We hope you will join us in our mission to bring people together and make new friends. Before you do, there are a few rules you should know about. By using Pie, you agree to these Community Guidelines (the “guidelines”), which are part of our Terms of Service.
We welcome people from all backgrounds to join Pie, but you must beat least 18 years old to join. If you are a user who is not geographically located in the United States, you agree to be bound by the laws, regulations, and rules that apply to online platforms in the United States and not your home jurisdiction. In addition, to help foster the safety of our community, we may deny access to those who have previously been banned from Pie for on- or off-platform policy violations, including engaging in dangerous or criminal behavior.
Pie’s Community Guidelines outline what we expect from our users. These Community Guidelines are not a contract, and Pie does not promise to take any specific action if it learns of potential violations of these Community Guidelines (except for mandatory reporting obligations discussed below). Pie decides whether third-party content posted to its platform violates its Community Guidelines and if so, what action to take. These Community Guidelines explain our expectations so that users are less likely to post content that may violate our guidelines, as Pie does not pre-screen its users or the content they post. Although Pie engages in content moderation, no system is perfect, and you may encounter objectionable content. If that happens, please let us know by contacting us at [email protected].
We expect everyone who uses Pie (“Users”) to view other users (“Joiners”) profiles and activities, browse or RSVP to in person or virtual events hosted on Pie (“Plans”), and those who host Plans (“Hosts” or “Creators”), to act with kindness and respect to others. We do not condone any behavior that threatens the physical or online safety of our community or using our services to engage in harmful or criminal activity. If we learn of such behavior and determine that there has been a violation of these Community Guidelines, we may terminate your account and take other action, such as alerting law enforcement, depending on the conduct.
In-Person Conduct. Pie is a platform that helps users turn online connections into an in-person community. We want our platform to be a safe, welcoming, and trusted space for all users, and that extends to the spaces you build together with Pie in person. If we learn of in-person behavior and determine it would violate our on-platform Community Guidelines if conducted on-platform, we may terminate the violating user’s account and possibly escalate to law enforcement. Because we have less context for in-person violations, we may require verifiable evidence of these violations before taking action. Investigations may include, but are not limited to, soliciting information from law enforcement and determining the appropriate response.
Be Yourself. We expect users to be honest about who they are. Use your own name and photographs. A nickname is OK, but don’t pretend to be someone you’re not. Don’t impersonate others, and do not make up a fake identity or online persona. Don’t create more than one account, and if you are banned from Pie, don’t try to create another account to circumvent that ban. If we learn of attempts at ban evasion, we will ban new accounts that we learn of and Pie also may pursue legal action.
Be Kind. Harassment, bullying, and hate speech are prohibited. Never use Pie to engage in hateful, harassing, bullying, dehumanizing, or other unkind behavior.
Don’t engage in patterns of behavior that could be interpreted as harassment by other users. This behavior includes but is not limited to continuing to message another user after being told to stop, aggressively pursuing a romantic relationship when the other user has clearly expressed no interest or consent, or repeatedly making unsolicited comments about a user’s appearance after being told to stop. If someone tells you they’re not interested, take the hint. Don’t continue to message the user with the same content.
Don’t engage in bullying, name-calling, or other attempts to ostracize or humiliate others.
Never demean anyone on Pie for any reason. We strive to build welcoming community, and this kind of behavior goes against those efforts.
Never use slurs or harmful stereotypes, and never promote violence against an individual or group because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or veteran status.
Don’t discriminate. At Pie, we encourage the building of communities around shared characteristics, beliefs, heritage, and identity, and will have exclusive Plans catered towards those communities. However, malicious exclusion, discrimination, differential treatment, or refusal of service based on any protected characteristics (race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or veteran status) is counter to our values as a company and a violation of these guidelines. If we find out that users are engaging in this type of behavior, whether on Pie or in person, we may take action against their accounts, up to and including termination.
If someone asks you to stop contacting them, either online or in person, respect their wishes. Respecting people’s boundaries is critical to everyone’s comfort while using Pie.
Don’t engage in sexual harassment, or sexually explicit behavior, or promote, endorse, or encourage others to commit acts of sexual violence against adults or animals. This is not the place to share pornography, nude images, or engage in sexual solicitation. Although we prohibit the sexually explicit behavior detailed herein, we’re not prudes. We understand that some Plans may have adult themes. These Plans are permitted as long as their flyers and details do not contain imagery of sex acts, nudity, pornography, or solicitations for sexual services. Pie reserves the right to remove, edit, or limit the visibility of Plans that we determine have crossed the line.
Pie is strongly opposed to sexual harassment and does not tolerate it on or off platform. Don’t engage in behaviors that are or can be interpreted as sexual harassment by another user. This includes comments—including with emojis or images—that focus on another user’s appearance or body, sexual requests or advances, sexual objectification, and negative statements or attacks related to a person's perceived sexual behaviors or activities, regardless of their gender or gender identity.
Sexual violence is a serious crime and violates local, state, and federal laws. If Pie receives a report of sexual violence that we determines to be credible, we may escalate to law enforcement and terminate the violating user’s account immediately. Sexual violence against adults encompasses non-consensual sex acts, threatening or coercing another user into committing a sex act, and intimately touching another person without consent. Glorifying sexual violence committed against others also falls under this policy and will result in the termination of a user’s account.
Do not upload nudity, sexually explicit imagery or text, or links to pornography or other sexually explicit content. Do not offer, promote, solicit, or upload pornographic content.
Do not advertise or solicit sexual services, including prostitution, escort services, sexual massages, and filmed sexual activity.
Do not, under any circumstances, share intimate photos of others without their consent, or threaten or extort others using intimate imagery. If we determine that you have engaged in this type of behavior, we may immediately terminate your account. We may also escalate this behavior to law enforcement in compliance with local, state, and federal laws that cover the distribution of non-consensual nudity and intimate images (NCII), also referred to as “revenge porn.” Pie will work with appropriate authorities to remove any NCII content hosted on its platform upon being made aware of its existence.
Sexual acts and violence against animals is strictly prohibited in all forms.
Respect the privacy of others. Don’t share others’ personally identifiable information (PII), such as social security numbers, private phone numbers, personal identification, or private medical information. Don’t share private communications or photos of others without their permission, even if you were a party to the conversation or the recipient.
Doxxing or sharing previously doxxed information from others is included within Pie’s definition of PII. Although this information may be available in other locations online, it was originally accessed and shared without the user’s consent.
Don’t engage in illegal behavior. Don’t use Pie to engage in illegal and criminal activity. We expect our users to respect all applicable local, state, territorial, tribal, and national laws while using our services for online or in-person engagements. Do not use Pie to recruit others to engage in illegal activity. Any discussion, activity, or Plan that features, encourages, offers, or solicits illegal or criminal activity is prohibited and may be reported to law enforcement. This includes but is not limited to:
Theft, fraud, bribery, extortion, gang activity, or the promotion of illegal goods or activities;
Selling or purchasing illegal, prescription, or regulated drugs, firearms, or counterfeit goods via Pie;
Committing or aiding in the destruction, defacement, or theft of public or another person’s property without permission through Plans organized on Pie;
Any form of human trafficking, including sex trafficking, sales of children, child exploitation, forced marriages, or domestic servitude.
Never use Pie to promote or engage in terrorist or violent extremist behavior against any person, organization, or property. This includes glorification of, recruiting or fundraising for, or activities supporting terrorist or extremist organizations. Engaging in these activities may result in escalation to law enforcement, specifically if the actions violate local, state, or federal laws. This includes sharing links to terrorist and violent extremist websites, propaganda, manifestos, and footage and photos of terrorist and violent extremist attacks, even for the purpose of denouncing such attacks and behaviors. Endorsing, encouraging, or organizing Plans in support or celebration of any terrorist or violent extremist activity is also prohibited under this policy and will result in the banning of the violating user’s account.
Don’t create, share, promote, or link to child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Pie has a zero tolerance policy against CSAM. If we discover such content, we will remove it, ban the violating user’s account, and report the content to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and/or law enforcement.
Never use our services to engage in any activity that contributes to the exploitation or abuse of kids (people under the age of 18), including sharing CSAM or engaging in any other exploitative, abusive, or predatory behavior towards kids.
This includes obscene content that does not depict an actual child, but is created by artificial intelligence, software programs, illustration, animation, or any other technology or tool that enables the creation of content that appears to depict a child engaged in obscene activity.
Don’t engage in or encourage acts of self-destructive behavior, self-harm, and attempts at suicide. Harming yourself or discussing self-harm can be dangerous not only for yourself but for those around you. We also understand that you may want to, and should be able to, discuss sensitive topics related to self-harm or mental health, and we want Pie to remain a safe space to do so. Anyone should be able to talk about their struggles if they so choose, or create Plans related to recovery, support, education, and memorialization of those lost. However, Pie does not allow content that glorifies, promotes, or encourages self-harm. We also prohibit activity that may endanger your life, lead to your physical harm, or encourage others to engage in physically harmful behavior. We do not make exceptions for self-destructive behavior performed as a stunt or gag made in jest, or meant to entertain, when the behavior could reasonably be expected to cause physical injury to anyone on our service.
If you are going through something yourself, know you are not alone and that there are resources out there to support you. Some of these include:
Pie takes suicide, self-harm, and other self-injury seriously and wants to do everything in its power to help keep users safe. We may provide reports of these cases to the appropriate authorities to ensure that users receive the help they need and avoid injury or harm.
Don’t promote, endorse, or engage in violence.This is something we take very seriously. Engaging in any of these activities may result in the immediate termination of your account, and, where necessary, escalation to law enforcement.
Never engage in violent behavior towards other people or animals, including threats, incitement, glorification, or encouragement of violence. Pie’s violence policy covers the following activities and content: sharing or linking to content depicting violent imagery, gore, death, and extreme injury.
Lawful sporting and sports entertainment Plans that have been legally sanctioned in the location of the Plan and are held in accordance with local, state, or federal regulations, including but not limited to boxing, mixed martial arts, and professional wrestling are welcome on Pie, both in conversation and as Plans.
Don’t misuse others’ intellectual property. Pie works to protect others’ property rights and complies with intellectual property rights laws, with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) being the most applicable. If owners of original works or intellectual property send us proper notice that someone is using or copying their work without their permission, we will remove the offending content and take action against the infringing account. This includes in-person Plans where intellectual property is used in a public setting without the owner’s permission. See our Terms of Service for more details.
Don’t abuse the platform. Spam, phishing, staff impersonation, malware, and technical exploits have no place on Pie.
Don’t send mass unsolicited messages to other users, whether manually or through automated tools.
Don’t join Plans you can’t or will not attend solely to engage with or advertise to users based on interests and activity on Pie.
Don’t solicit secure account details from other users. This includes but is not limited to deceptive technical practices, such as phishing links, as well as the impersonation of Plan Hosts or Pie personnel in an attempt to gain access to another user’s account, data, or other secured information.
Don’t misuse, exploit, or otherwise disrupt Pie or Pie’s technical infrastructure.
Do your due diligence. Our goal is to help you find cool “Plans” and awesome people with whom you can attend them, but please be sure to do your own research on the Host, venue, and Plan details to make sure they’re right for you. Use common sense when meeting new friends. While we expect everyone to follow the rules, we do not pre-screen Plans or users to make sure they comply with our policies. If you’re asked to do something or provide information that makes you feel uncomfortable, go with your gut and don’t attend the Plan or provide the information. If you believe a Plan may violate one of our policies, let us know via a support request or email, and we’ll check it out.
Be respectful of Plan venues. Please follow any rules set by the Host or venue. Clean up after yourself, as appropriate, and use care with furniture or equipment that doesn’t belong to you. Any damage to Plan property attributed to individual users may impact the status of your account and lead to suspension and escalation to law enforcement. Don’t use Plan venues for purposes other than those designated in the Plan description. Any illegal or criminal activities that occur at a venue may result in your account being banned and escalation to law enforcement by the venue, Host, or Pie.
Be respectful to other Joiners. All the rules we mentioned above that relate to online activities apply just as much in person. If we find out that you have been engaging in illegal, harmful, or disrespectful behavior that violates these guidelines, we may take appropriate action against your account.
Purchasing tickets to Plans. Some of our Hosts charge for their Plans. When you buy a ticket, you’re supporting a Host in your community! Cool, right? Be sure to read the Plan’s description and details carefully before purchasing a ticket. If you feel that you are being pressured to purchase a ticket to a Plan or that the Plan lacks critical details that you would expect to be published, don’t purchase the ticket. We encourage Joiners and Creators to work together to resolve disputes and concerns.
Refunds for tickets purchased outside of Pie:When Joiners purchase Plan tickets outside of Pie, Pie is unable to facilitate or offer refunds, or resolve disputes. Please continue to work with the Creator and if you need additional assistance, contact Pie support.
Refunds for tickets purchased on Pie: In its sole discretion, Pie is generally only able to offer refunds when a Plan has been canceled, changed significantly, or is materially not as described.
Be honest about your Plan. Your reputation is important, not to mention critical to your success. Be honest about your venue location and accommodations, as well as the details of your Plan. You should provide Joiners with as much detail as possible about the Plan, venue, location, accommodations, activities, and behavioral expectations. If we find out that your Plan is materially different than advertised, we may take action against your account. If tickets are sold through Pie, we may issue a refund to Joiners at your expense. We know sometimes things don’t go as planned, and that’s OK, but don’t deceive potential Joiners about your Plan. If something does go awry, be sure to keep track of those details and have them available if a Joiner raises a dispute or claims that the Plan details were deceptive. We encourage Creators to work with Joiners to come to a resolution on disputes and concerns about Plans. If a Creator fails to work with a Joiner on a dispute and the Joiner disputes the charge with their bank, the Creator is liable for the refund and any additional dispute-related fees that are incurred.
Charge a fair price and be transparent about costs. If you plan to sell tickets to your Plan, make sure to set a price that is reasonable for what you are offering. If there are additional costs or fees that will be charged at the venue, be sure to disclose that information in the Plan details and other subsequent updates. Joiners should be fully aware of any and all charges that they’ll be paying to attend a Plan. We don’t tolerate scams, fraud, misrepresentation, or taking advantage of others, and may take action against your account or, if tickets are sold through Pie, issue refunds to Joiners at your expense.
While these guidelines provide examples of the types of harms we consider to be violative, we reserve the right to take action against any behavior that threatens the safety of our community, uses our services to engage in harm, or undermines the trust and integrity of our service, even if that behavior is not specifically listed above.
Pie does not mediate disputes between Hosts and Joiners. We do not offer refunds where a Plan does not meet a Joiner’s expectations. At our discretion, we reserve the right to issue refunds to Joiners for tickets sold through Pie when the Plan is materially different from what was advertised. Please carefully review Plan details before making any commitments.
If you feel that a Host is misrepresenting themselves or their Plan, or otherwise violating these guidelines, please let us know at [email protected].
We enforce our Community Guidelines based on reported online and offline behavior while using our services or making use of our services to establish connections with other users. We may also consider the severity of the harm, the circumstances of the case, and the evidence provided by all parties involved. Pie may take any enforcement action or remedy it sees fit, in our sole discretion, including but not limited to:
Issuing a warning;
Removing content from our platform;
Temporarily suspending your account;
Permanently banning your account;
Making a referral to law enforcement; and/or
Another remedy in our sole discretion.
Should Pie identify suspected or actual criminal activity its investigation, Pie may escalate the investigation to law enforcement and appropriate government agencies. Pie will fully cooperate with these agencies, as required by law, including but not limited to providing information collected during its own enforcement investigations.
If you believe that an enforcement decision has been made against you in error, you may write to us to appeal the decision within 30 days of the enforcement at [email protected]. Please include the phone number and email address (if applicable) associated with your Pie account, as well as details as to why you believe our decision was incorrect. As with all enforcement decisions, the granting of an appeal is at Pie’s sole discretion. You are bound by our final decision. Appeals are reviewed by our Safety team in the order in which they are received, and there is no guarantee that enforcements will be overturned or that you will receive an appeal decision within a specific timeframe. Each appeal request is reviewed on its own individual merits, which may require additional time for more complex cases. Only the owner of the impacted account may submit an appeal of an account suspension or warning. Abusing or spamming the appeals process, including repeatedly submitting unfounded appeals, may lead to additional penalties. Further, creating a duplicate account to circumvent our decision is a violation of these guidelines and our Terms of Service.
While we expect everyone to comply with these Community Guidelines, we do not pre-screen users or Plans. We cannot guarantee that other users will comply with our guidelines or Terms of Service or that our platform will be free of violating content. We encourage you to report any violations to us at [email protected]. If you do not wish to be contacted by another user, please block them from contacting you by using the blocking tool in the app.
In certain cases relating to account access or restoration, Pie may require you to submit personally identifiable information (PII) or identification documents. When such a situation arises, Pie will retain this PII and documentation for a period of 90 days and store it in a secure storage site that is restricted only to those team members with a defined need for such access. At the end of the 90 days, Pie will purge the collected PII and documentation unless the collected data are used in an investigation, legal, or law enforcement proceeding. If the data are used in one of these proceedings, Pie will revisit the impacted data every 90 days to determine whether retention is still required.
